Our client plans, develops and ensures delivery of a range of government services and commercial enterprises for the people of the ACT. They maintain Canberra's infrastructure such as roads, streetlights and storm water systems, provide public transport, deliver waste and recycling services, look after urban parks and public open space. They provide the community with libraries provide access to the Government through Canberra Connect and operate a number of commercial businesses. In this role you will be responsible for the delivery of reactive and planned maintenance of mechanical fittings, including new installations in ACT Government buildings and sites. This may include: - Electrical Class B work and welding
Fitting machined parts - Bending and installing hydraulic and pneumatic pipes
- Using oxy-acetylene torches and presses, dry ice and carbon dioxide freezing
- Repair and fault-find hydraulic and pneumatic equipment
- Operate powered machines that may be manually or computer controlled
- Reading and understanding detailed plans and blueprints
- Supplying quotes
- Liaising with customers and supervising apprentices
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Under limited supervision from the Trades Supervisor, either individually or as part of a small team: - Perform, within the scope of the mechanical fitters trades work, including electrical class B tasks and welding, or work requiring an equivalent level of skill and knowledge, to a high level of trade skill and employing initiative and judgement in a tradesman-like manner and adhering to the Building Code of Australia and Australian Standards as applicable
- Liaise with customers, contractors and staff in relation to safety and meeting customer expectations
- Provide expertise and assistance to managers and supervisors as required
- Record details of work undertaken and provide the necessary paperwork to enable invoicing of works to customers and payments to suppliers, including supervise, plan and co-ordinate the work of a small work team or control the operations of part of a program undertaking a variety of manual tasks, including estimating and ordering, work prioritising, staff control and training and maintenance or records and basic reporting
- Respond to the PP&S Response Centre in a timely and professional manner
- Train and/or mentor apprentices or support staff as directed
- Perform duties in a safe manner and assist in reducing the risk of injury to all personnel
The successful candidate will have the following: - An advanced understanding and demonstrated high level skills in the areas of mechanical fitting, welding repairs and electrical work requiring an electrical Class B licence, as well as maintenance and installation

The below qualifications are ESSENTIAL to be successful: - A mechanical fitting, and welding trade certificates
- Electrician Class B licence
- A current driver’s licence
